    About Lancing

    Lying just over three miles to the East of Worthing is the ‘village’ of Lancing, a popular seaside resort in the mid-19th century, gaining favour for its secluded atmosphere. Today, while technically a village, its population size and number of shops and restuarants means it is essentially its own small town. There is a lovely shingle beach with good stretches of sand at low water.

    Lancing began to be incresingly built out as a result of the development and infilling of the Sussex coast that took place after the Second World War. The village has effectively become combined with Sompting to form a continuous block of suburbanisation. Today, Lancing offers an array of well priced property ranging from large detached houses to more modern flats, however alomost 70% of residential property consists of semi detached and terraced houses. 75% of property is owner occupied and 25% is rented.

    • Lancing is home to Lancing College, famous for its magnificent Gothic Chapel and the largest stained-glass rose window in England.
    • On its eastern side is Shoreham Airport, the world’s oldest continually operated airport.
    • Lancing is now home to Brighton and Hove Albion training ground.
    • Lancing was visited by Oscar Wilde in the 1890s when he stayed at nearby Worthing. The working title for his masterpiece The Importance of Being Earnest was Lady Lancing.
    • As a child, heavyweight boxer Sir Henry Cooper was evacuated from London to Lancing, along with identical twin brother George.
